This is only one half inch. But this clear smoky quartz that I found 43 years ago in Rosendale, New York, is my favorite for today.

While photographing this specimen this morning I realized how much I like the combination of rose quartz, feldspar, and muscovite. Pitorra Mine, Lananjeiras, Brazil. 6.0 x 6.8 cm.

Michael:

Very nice rose quartz; the correct name of the locality is Pitorra mine, Galiléia, Minas Gerais.

Today's favorite...I have had this for over 30 years, and rediscovered it.

75.0 x 60.0 x 37.0 mm overall. White blades of Barite form interlocking groups of distinct appearance, with blades reaching 2.2 cm on edge. Choice small cabinet from this classic American mine.

Today's contribution....

148.0 x 80.0 x 40.0 mm overall. Striking specimen of opaque cream-colored rhombs of Dolomite to 2.1 cm nicely perched on limonitic matrix. The Calcite crystals partly engulf glassy Hemimorphite crystals to 1 cm in length. Translucent yellowish Mimetite in spherical crystal aggregates to 3 mm are perched on both Hemimorphite and Calcite crystals.

Bob, Maggie thanks. That's one fine dolomite and hemimorphite you got Bob. Looks very similar to a piece I have from the same locale collected back in the 1960's.
