This is what I collected while in Arizona for the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. A self collected Creaseyite from the type locality. A micro, but a pretty little micro. It is my favorite for sure today. Thank you Robert O Meyer for photographing it.

One I've had for a while. I purchased this specimen for $3.50 at the Midwest Federation show in Rock Island, Illinois in 1967.

Sharp, twinned, pseudohexagonal aragonite crystals with small calcites coating some surfaces. The base of the specimen contains sulfur. Agrigento, Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy. Overall size: 11x7.5x4 cm. Largest crystal 3x3 cm on face.

Cheers!

Steve

Thanks Gail.

Today's favorite is a mate to the Meikle barite specimen. A glassy cluster of calcite. 7.9 x 4.6 cm.

Looking at slides from times past and couldn't resist making this one my favorite of the day.

Digging concretions near Edgemont, Fall River County, South Dakota in 1979. These smaller concretions seemed to have relatively more open space for development of calcite and baryte crystals. The happy collector now has children nearly the same age he was here.

Cheers!

I just started photographing my new pieces.
Here's one from the Minerva No. 1 Mine, Hardin County, Illinois

This Willemite from Tsumeb is quite appealing. It is mainly reddish-brown, with a bright blue stripe passing through it. I am told the the reddish-brown variety is Mn-rich "troostite." Does anyone know what the chromophore is for the blue variety? My guess would be copper, but it's just a guess.

4 x 5 x 3 cm

Here's a Calcite dusted with Duftite from Tsumeb. A very nice grouping of crystals in parallel growth.
I wish I could get my photos as sharp as A.M. does. sad smiley

I agree Neal. A.M. does a great job.

I've been wondering: better optics, better sharpening algorithm, or just plain better minerals?...<grin>

It's a combination of optics, optimum aperture, lighting, and a little sharpening that culminates in a crisp image.
Having a nice mineral to start with doesn't hurt either ..... grinning smiley

It's been a while. Enjoying all the beautiful specimens. Thanks one and all for posting.
Linda, that is a lovely creasyite, photo makes for a very pretty garden! A nice scene on a winter's day.
Neal - as usual your specimens are outstanding.
AM - you continue to set the bar for others to admire and aspire.
Stephen and Bob, great depth of classics. Enjoying your new thread as well.

This is a little tidbit that just came in the mail. The label made me smile as it indicated it was a piece from the type material, an unexpected bonus and now my favourite of the day. From Al Falster.

Esperanzaite
La Esperanza Mine, Durango, Mexico
overall specimen size 12mm

stephanie

Stephanie, that's a beautiful esperanzaite, and photo. You should upload this to mindat, and I'm shure it will be the mineral page photo!

Here's mine for today. Been busy with lots of house construction here, and destruction...oh, and throw in mayhem while we are at it. ha ha!

Anyhow, the mineral that brought me into the collecting world....

Hello again,

It's been long since I posted a specimen as I had to return the laptop from my former employer.
I hope this new picture from a nice rutile with hematite from Novo Horizonte will appeal without the usual postproduction.
She measures 4,5 by 4 centimeters.
