Can't resist chiming in when the subject is quartz. Old photo, before I had a clue how to do this. 6 inch matrix of amethyst scepters, one inch 'iron rose' hematite, Denny Mt. WA, collected 1981. Would love to know where this piece is today!

Hang in there Gail; Nat and I are thinking of you!!!
I'm not sure if I have posted one of these or not, but here is not necessarily a "specimen" but rather more of a mining artifact. Miners in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan while extracting large masses of native copper would cut them up with chisels (by hand) into smaller pieces to make them more manageable to remove. In the process, they would create shavings of native copper. The photo below is an example of one of these shavings or "chisel chips" as they are called locally. The chip measures approx. 8 cm long.

ooh Quartz!
Great Amethyst Gail!
i'm a bit of a sucker for Quartz, especially associated with other species. i find them endlessly fascinating.
Here's a nice classic miniature ( about 6 cms high) of quartz with hematite 'roses' from Switzerland
cheers, Colleen

Nice pieces everyone.
My favourite today is this Fluorite from the Huanggang Mine in China.
It's about 5 cm.
Greetings

Hi to all
Here is today a link to a rock I managed to bring into my collection after it was already sold!
These are among my favorite rocks in the mineral world, period! A few old (1920's) and a large suite of the new (2011) speciments are the backbone of my collection, and I am ready to big sacrifices to go further that way! These are too scarce and too unknown to be classics...
This speciment is small, not cheap, but I like these too much!

I have always liked the bright luster on these crystals; many of the Glove specimens have a matte finish. My favorite today.
Wulfenite, Glove mine, Amado, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona. 6.5x5x2.5 cm.
Cheers!

And today a small legrandite from Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. The crystal cluster is about 1x1 cm. Some specimens with this lot had wonderful koettigite/legrandite combinations.
Cheers!
