Techniques for CollectorsWelcome to Mineral Cleaning and Specimen Preparation

30th Jul 2008 07:45 UTCRock Currier Expert

Here are some basics to help you get the most out of the Mineral Cleaning and Preparation bulletin board.

You are here because you want to clean specimens, or at least make them look better. Here you can interact with some of the most knowledgeable specimen prep people around. To start with you should tell everyone as much as you can about the specimen(s) you want to improve. Ideally you should tell us what minerals are on the specimen, where it is from. It is often very helpful to include a picture of the specimen and explain what it is that you hope to achieve by cleaning or altering the specimen. If you just say, I found a rock, how do I clean it, you will probably get no response at all or someone asking you smart ass questions. Be as specific as you can.

Perhaps the most common question that has appeared on the cleaning and preparation board involve cleaning quartz. If you have questions about cleaning quartz, you may first want to read an article I wrote about cleaning quartz. http://www.mindat.org/article.php/403/Cleaning+Quartz. If you have further questions, post them on this board for help.
