Harjo,
You are a very lucky man... I bet you already know that though.

Use of labels in display cabinets

I don't see any labels with any of the specimens on the display shelves, in any of the posted photographs, or at least ones that are visible in the picture. I think that that is a perfectly good way to display specimens, but others disagree. I would like to hear the opinions of other collectors on this subject.

I go for the old museum look and feel, so I like using wood and iron stands, with "antique" labels. I also put themes of minerals into smaller wood cases (like the ones for model cars). These photos are of some of my past displays; a few pieces always stay out, a few get cycled through.

Hi all!

Choose a light source which produces minimal or no ultraviolet radiation. If I'm not mistakan those wave lengths attack the color of minerals. The glass around your case will absorb around 80 per cent of this radiation and this will slow the reaction, but it is much better not to use such bulbs or sunlight.(especially when you have spent 10.000 instead of 2.000 dollars for a Manganoan Calcite with red color when the rest of the find had just pink color...).

Good luck!
-Kostas.
