Techniques for CollectorsDoes anyone have any input on making perky box lables on an Apple?

29th Aug 2014 20:03 UTClexie seeley

Hello!

Does anyone have any input on a nice and easy way to make perky box labels for thumbnails?

I have an Apple computer and dont have too much software and kinda novice at these things!

I have around 700 to make and need to know the quickest/best way!

Thanks for your help!!

Quickest would be in Stickiest! Though I have not tried to print off of this quick, automating program. Text Edit would be your best bet. If you find a way to make a black outline box, let me know!

Hi,

I have used Excel for years to make labels for micro mounts. It would take some fiddling around to make a template for a perky box, but once you have it, it can be used for any specimen. Excel also allows for "borders" which would create the box that Paul asked about.

Hope you do not mind me inserting a historical note, but I knew Willard Perkin, who developed the Perky box.

His business pre-dated the personal computer. So, he made his labels by typing them on a typewriter and then photographically reducing their size to fit inside the Perky box, laying flat in front of the mineral. He spent a lot of time and I believe he got satisfaction in his precision work.
