Bonjour

Bernie

Hello

My French is not good so I am typing this message through a google translation service. I live in Cornwall, UK and am shortly going to visit North West France for a few days staying just north of St Nazaire. I am a collector of Tin related minerals in particular Cassiterite specialising in self collecting predominently Cornwall and Devon. I like to find ore samples, plus alluvial samples. I was wondering if anyone can detail any accessible sites in NW France where I may be able to go and look for specimens, especially between La Villeder and Saint Nazaire without causing problems to anyone.

Thanking in advance

Bernie

Hi Bernie,

For alluvials placers, try at Port-au-Loup beach:
and you could also contact via PM our member François Perinet (id=4272)

Not far from St-Nazaire, I think as a cassiterite and tin related minerals fan, you have to go to Abbaretz which was the biggest tin mine exploited in France.
[stjoabbaretz.free.fr]

There is still a very big spoil heap in place and I've heard that, with chance, one could find little piece of ore on the ground.

I hope this will help you.
Good stay in France.
Jean-Marc

PS: If you will be still in France for the 19-20 of May, St Nazaire mineral fair will stand during this week-end .

Salut Jean-Marc

Cordialement

Bernie
