I posted this in the wrong area.

Basically... Have a Collecting section on the message board. Then have categories for every state. Countries could be added as interest in them grew.

Collecting:
-General
-Alabama
-Alaska
-Arizona
etc etc etc

Then in each category are the threads for that particular state.

If you are wondering about a certain area then you title the post with the nearest city.

This would remove the countless "hey anything in this area" type posts.

It would also make it a ton easier to go through sites for certain areas.

I think this could easily fit in the general location descripttions under Localities.
Eg Under South Comet mine, Dundas we have:

"Great South Comet mine, Dundas mineral field, Zeehan District, Tasmania, Australia

An old, abandoned underground mine on the Comet-Maestries line of lode. Reopened breifly by open cut in the mid 1980's, when some good specimens were recovered. These include reasonable crystals of sphalerite and galena on dolomite and siderite, and some are still available on the remaining dumps and open cuts. Since its closure the mine gate has been locked, requiring a steep 2km return walk unless you can find a key."

Under the regions (eg Dundas) we list all the known mines and mineral sites in the area and we could easily summarise the collectable minerals and collecting status.

Nobody searches the location descriptions for places to go find things.

Instead they post "anyone ever been here" threads.

It would be a lot easier if they were all organized. I know I'd spend a lot more time going through them.

And no.. the search feature doesnt always work because I might search for "nevada" but they might have only listed "las vegas" in the thread...
