Improving Mindat.orgMore than one main mineral in same photo...

9th Jun 2011 16:29 UTCEdgars Endzelins

Recently I started to upload mineral photos and faced the situation that there are two or more different minerals with equal significance (pretty hard to decide which one to list as the first one) and also some less significant minerals in same specimen, however this photo can be listed only in one galery (depending on mineral which is listed first). Would not it be quite useful if there is possibility to seperately specify more than one main mineral in which galeries photo will be listed and other less significant minerals in which galeries photo will not be listed? Also I don’t understand why mineral varieties can not be listed in species galery...

Best regards,

Edgars

"Also I don’t understand why mineral varieties can not be listed in species gallery... " They should be. An example? (There is a difference between varieties, which can be listed and synonyms which cannot.)

Sveiki!

Bet man liekas ka šinī gadijumā neviens neuztrauksies.)

This was previously discussed in the Management. The programming of this would be fairly difficult.

The current best option is to provide, in the caption of the first mineral/photo a link to the other mineral/photo (e.g., http://www.mindat.org/photo-333540.html). It's a bit cumbersome, but it works.

If it's important enough to have two species listed in their respective galleries (which in some cases it probably is), why not take two photos of the specimen and list the species in a different order on each?

Steve, agreed, but as Uwe suggests, its desirable to link two or more photos of the same specimen somehow.

Two photos of the same specimen can be linked and have different primary minerals!

That was why I suggested it...I thought it would be a viable workaround.
