Fluorescent collecting trip through NJ and Ontario

My son and I are planning a road trip from Illinois to New Jersey and then on up to Bancroft, Ontario. We are interested in collecting fluorescent minerals. We know about the basics like Franklin and Sterling Hill and the CN Dump in Bancroft, but we are looking for any advice on other locations we should visit. Note, though, that my son is just barely a teenager and I had shoulder surgery this past winter, so we're not interested in any place where we might really have to break a lot of rock to find something interesting.

We will probably be timing the trip to be in NJ near the end of July and then move up to Bancroft to get there right before the start of the Gemboree.

ANY information or advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Doug

Long Lake Zinc mine, Ontario, perhaps?

Yes, I think that would be a good place. I am not exactly sure how far off out of the way it is, particularly since it might be better for night collecting. On the other hand, I guess I need to buy a grill cover or something like that for NJ, so I might not *have* to be there at night.

No personal experience here, but I've heard light-blocking household curtains recommended rather than a grill cover. Used curtains can be found in thrift stores and often can be found in light (=cooler!) colors vs. the usual black grill covers.

My garage is a good place to collect fluorescent minerals. Lots of interesting material, and minimal work. Unfortunately there is a fee per rock collected. grinning smiley
