Hi
My friend and I just came back from a 3 day whirlwind trip from PA to Bancroft Canada. First off, thank you to Michael A. for all of his invaluable
collecting reports from the Bancroft area. That plus info from our other friends allowed us to make maximum use of the time we had in the area.
The rain that moved into the area for the 3 days made things a little messy. However the area desperately needs the water, so it was a minor inconvenience. It the course of visiting one of the shops we were made aware of an individual who had a stockpile of material from the Essonville Road cut and was looking for collectors to visit for a small fee. After making the call we visited the owner who couldn't have been more cordial. Long story short is that when the Essonville road cut was taking place some of the material was dumped on what is listed on this site as the Earl Farm location. The current owner of that property is Mr. Lee Craig and he asked that I let collectors know that the material is available to collect when in the Wilberforce area. It is essentially a few decent sized piles that are located in a field. In order to acquire permission and to pay the fee you can contact him at 705 448-2664 or tmiac@sympatico.ca. We took away some beautiful specimens from the piles. The matrix material is starting to crumble and the crystals are very evident.
NOTE: Don't expect to go there and hammer away at the piles to try and free specimens. There is plenty of loose material and large manageable boulders that you can take and work on later. He is trying to prevent a circumstance where a few collectors come in and reduce the piles to rubble. This makes sense. The fee for us was very cheap, but I will let Lee tell you when you make contact. As an aside, he is also a craftsman and produces that most exquisite hand build wooden canoes.
Regards,
Greg Kokolus
PS If there are any dealers that want to negotiate for the whole lot (about 5 tons) he would be open to offers.
