Luka Berkovic / Minerals_rsa – dishonest minerals seller
Posted by Jorge Santos Garcia
Jorge Santos Garcia December 12, 2011 04:27PMI want to warn you to be careful dealing with the South African seller Luka Berkovic, AKA Minerals-rsa.
He is an unscrupulous and dishonest person that failed to send me one specimen I won at an auction.
I won the specimen the June, 30, and only got the invoice the July, 16, with the excuse he was travelling.
I paid the purchase 2 days later (July, 18) and waited for the specimen till September, 7, when I asked him by e-mail about it. He replied that there was a delay because his staff didn’t put a lot of parcels, including mine, on the mail, but he was working on it. On September, 12, the webpage that hosted that seller advised me to open a dispute on paypal because the seller didn’t answer to their e-mails. I tried to contact him again but received no answer and I noticed he had closed his seller’s page on e-bay also.
On November, 15 I noticed he was again on e-bay under the name ‘minerals_rsa’ and asked him about one specimen, which had a quick answer and then I asked for my specimen or my money back, which had no answer. A second e-mail sent 3 days later had a response. He apologise because he was out and could not answer to my other e-mail (which was sent a few minutes after he had replied to my first e-mail, but he was already on a trip – strange, no?) and wanted a photo to look for my specimen, promising me to send it the next week.
When I tried to reply I noticed he had blocked my e-mail account, I had to use another account of mine. Of course it had no answer, like one last e-mail I sent him on November, 28.
It’s obvious that he has no intention of sending me my money back or my purchase, so he is a liar, dishonest and unscrupulous dealer. I believe, for his own words that a lot of people must have been cheated by this scumbag.

Tim Jokela Jr December 13, 2011 10:25PMGoodness gracious, somebody buying from a stranger in a third world country on eBay has a problem???!!!!
How unusual! In this day and age! Unthinkable!
Makes me worry about that nice man from Ghana from whom I bought $100,000 of gold dust and diamonds. I sure hope he comes through.
Also that kind lady from Russia, who wants to be friends, and needs a few bucks for a new furnace; I wonder if she's legit?
There truly is one born every minute.
Pavel Martynov December 14, 2011 12:14PMHello!
Completely agree. I have bought stones from Luka Berkovic at Mark Wrigley's auction for 110$. I received nothing. First Luka apologies and said that he will settle everything, but I think it was needed only to spare time, so I could'nt open a claim at paypal. Now Luka is banned from auction, but I see he still trades...
His previous ebay id is ajoite_papagoite_king. Also closed, also for cheating.
It was the only case when the seller maliciously cheated me. I have bought about 100 parcels at auction from different sellers.
P.S. Luka has a page at facebook, also blocks unwanted people there.
Johan Kjellman December 14, 2011 03:32PMNot only from a "third world country", it gets worse...I can see on his facebook page that he is also "liberal", does not confess to any religion (atheist?), likes women (heterosexual - hmm?) and judging from his photo he is "white" (duck and cover!)
Seriously, his favorite citation - "F**K that shit." - seems to explain a bit or two...
Maurizio Dini December 14, 2011 05:41PMDear Friends
beside, I would also say that paypal does not appear to be the best transaction system
hope your coments on this
Joseph Polityka December 14, 2011 07:02PMTim,
If we ever meet I'll remember to never tell you about the mistakes I have made in my lifetime. People like Jorge, and most of us, start out with the best intentions and sometimes get burned. That's part of life. Making the same mistake twice is another story. And, Tim, South Africa is not a Third World Country.
I hope you at least get something for your money. Good luck.
Minerals-rsa December 16, 2011 06:53AMWow.
Jorge my friend i have never heard someone talk soooo much lies, i emailed you and asked you to send me a picture of the specimen so i can post it to you, i never got a email though, and i never blocked your emails!
Pavel did i block you on facebook? because last i checked i never even got a message on fb from you!
Amazing what people say here....makes me wonder what other people say about you people!
I am not going to explain my situation or what happened, but if you are missing a parcel email me and ill post it to you, i never intended to 'steal your money' i was selling on erocks for so long, why would i just do that all of a sudden,
To all the other parties who are adding there two cents, get a life!
Jorge Santos Garcia December 16, 2011 09:52AMLuka
I'm glad to see that aaaaaallllll my lies are just about you have, or not have, blocked my e-mail, which means you accept all the rest as truth.
Don't want to discuss with you. As I told you several times just want my specimen or my money back, and I see no reason what so ever for you not to send a specimen that is paied (specimen and postage). But I still have the 2 e-mails returned after you have asking for the pictures, that by the way I can't have as I have not the specimen yet. The same way I have 2 e-mails I've send you from another e-mail account that were delivered - I have the proofs of all I've wrote as I only delete the e-mails of a specimen I bought after receive it. So, let's not choose this way of dealing with this issue.
Tonight, when I go back home I'll send you again from my main e-mail (gmail - the one that was/not was blocked) the 'page' of the specimen in pdf as I always print it as part of the specimen's documentation. It has little black and white pictures of the specimen, hope it can help you. If not, send me the money I spent. If it fails I will send it by my other e-mail. Hope to ear from you soon.

Minerals-rsa December 16, 2011 03:14PMJorge,
I have never blocked your emails or anything like that, my last message to you on ebay was please send me a photo of the piece so that i can find it and post it for you, i have been waiting for the email, I cannot find the piece because i cannot log into erocks....this is why i am asking you to send me a picture?
Jorge email me at email@example.com
Pavel Martynov December 21, 2011 09:57AMHello, Luka (Minerals_rsa).
I am happy that you are in contact again.
I did sent you e-mails to firstname.lastname@example.org,
My emails to you dated (GMT+3):
15 august 2011 12:44
23 august 2011 15:10
I also contacted several times with Mark Wrigley from e-rocks, but he couldn't help. He just said that you had difficulties with many clients that time. All this mails were sent to your email@example.com as a copy.
All of them were unreplied.
Here is the text of your last e-mail to me, dated 21 july 2011 19:18
There has been a huge delay in the postage, mostly due to the fact that the people i had running my business while i was away have not coped with the posting of the parcels, there is a massive backlog of parcels that need to be posted and they will all get posted by next week Wednesday. I am very sorry for the delay, i will give you a 50% discount on shipping on the next auction you win!
Berkovic Minerals cc

LKS73711 Sturmanite & Manganite $10.00
Total product cost $100.00

ORDER TOTAL $117.00 "
I wrote you a message at FB at 6 september 2011, 19:27 (GMT+3), saying
"Hello Luka, are you there? I've got some questions about minerals."
I wrote such a small fist message, not explaining the situation, because I thought you didn't want to talk to your angry clients. And wanted first to know, was this "Luca" at FB you or not.
I must correct, you didn't block me. But didn't answer as well.
If this case is not a fraud, and if you refund me this parcel, then I will be happy to work with you in the future. And will gladly write refutation here, in this topic, that you are honest seller.

Stephen C. Blyskal December 27, 2011 10:40PMI have also had a bad experience with this seller on E-Rocks, which is in my opinion a great site for rare and unusual minerals. Also Mark Wrigley of TVM Minerals is doing a great job running the site. That said, I won a mineral from Luka in an auction and promptly paid the invoice that arrived. A week later I won another specimen from him. The invoice I got following the second auction was for both minerals, and double the postage! All my attempts to get this corrected, including several long emails to Mark Wrigley pleading for help, failed, and I refused to pay double for the specimen. I wrote off my loss (<$25) as a learning experience and resolved never to buy from Luka B. again. That's my experience to add to what has been said previously on this thread.
Scott Duncan January 03, 2012 07:43PMYou have cheated me as well. In May of 2011, I won 2 of your specimens on the eRocks site, promptly paid you and have been waiting ever since, despite numerous attempts to contact you. More specifically, I paid you $34 for a duftite-included calcite, and $55 for a siderite psm calcite, plus shipping for a total of $103.50 that was paid via PayPal on May 23, 2011 (transaction ID 63099691V76329201) for eRocks order #228268.
Minerals-rsa January 05, 2012 02:35PMMy email address is here......why you dont email me? telkomsa.net email is not working.
Jorge, Rossano and Ru your parcels were posted, email me if you want the tracking number.
Pavel, I was away for 3 weeks and your parcel will be sent in the next week....dont fret, I gave you my email, its just a bad time of year to post parcels and i could not reply when i was away!
Everyone else please send me your shipping details and your parcels will get posted:
Tracking number can be confirmed at www.sapo.co.za
Debbie Woolf January 05, 2012 03:18PMLuka, from what I could see at www.sapo.co.za the online tools track & trace is only for domestic not international. Why don't you trace them yourself ? You could help matters by making it clear in this thread all your email address, office & mobile/cell numbers. I have often found hotmail addresses to be unreliable.
Minerals-ebay January 13, 2012 06:50AMHi Debbie,
Thanks for the message......
Once i am issued a tracking number from the 'sapo' for some odd reason once the parcel leave south africa it is given a new tracking number and the buyer must then take the tracking number i have provided to their nearest post office to recieve the new tracking number. The tracking number i am issued with just basically provides the buyer with proof that the parcel has left south africa, the only other way to track it all the way to your door is with fedex and at 100usd for a 300gram parcel, it is not really worth it especially considering that the parcels are all over 500grams!
also i am on the road alot in namibia, zimbabwe and kuruman so my hotmail address is really the only email that i am using.
Cellphone number is 27727036664
Duncan Miller January 15, 2012 10:06AMI hold no brief for Luka Berkovic with whom I have had no dealings, but what he has written here about the South African Post Office is true. The break in the tracking happens to both incoming and outgoing mail, and provides the perfect opportunity for pilfering. I have had a specimen posted in the UK disappear at the point at which it was "handed over for delivery in SA". The local SA post office could track it only to that point through the UK tracking number and was totally unconcerned about the theft. Overseas parcels can be insured at 2% of value up to R5000 (about US$600) but that also doesn't ensure delivery, and the rigmarole to claim on the insurance is not worth it. Having said that, most overseas parcels I post or expect to receive do arrive.

I think that this thread is one where "me too" postings may serve a common good.
Sooo.... me too.
I bought from this man, last year, through Mark Wrigley's site, paid and received nothing. Apart from one apologetic 'bcc' mail I received no response to my e-mails. Though, by this point, Berkovic's seller details were no longer being carried on Mark's site, I let him (Mark) know what had gone on. I heard promptly from Mark who implied that I was not the only one Berkovic had bilked and that he (Berkovic) had promised to make good all such claims. The content of this thread strongly suggests that this is no simple 'business disaster', inefficiency or other accident. Rather, there is bilking being practiced by Berkovic through various selling channels and under different business names.
My couple of years of buying through net auctions have produced other experiences from the excellent (a lot) through to the mediocre. With the few poor experiences, there may have been some muddle involved but only in the case of Mr Berkovic has there been anything to show a dishonest intent. He has earned this reputation and now deserves to have it follow him whereever and whenever he shows himself.
My thanks to the others who have posted here their experiences of Berkovic's dishonesty.
Siu Kwong LAI March 01, 2012 10:10AMI also bought items from Luka's e-rocks account and even bought batches of material from him. Most of his parcels was mistically rejected or failed to sent to me, while those parcels from other S.African dealers are normal. Why?
Like other peoples, I also tried to contact him via his email but receive no reply.
Could anybody offer help?
Pavel Martynov March 14, 2012 04:52PMI succesfully received the parcel from Luka today. (bought in Juny 2011, resent to me by Luka in January 2012, after this topic) All specimen are as described.
Thanks to Luka, for finally solving my case.
Thanks also to Jorge Santos Garcia, the topicstarter, for this topic.
I must say that it is possible to comunicate with Luka, and I hope he will try to resolve your cases too.
So, my word, Luka is not very accurate, but honest person.
I'm going to continue buying from him from time to time, if Luka will not be against it.
Owen Lewis (2) March 14, 2012 06:30PMYea, verily!
Should I ever receive the goods/my money back (or has his paypal account 'gone sick/on holiday'?) I shall be pleased indeed to return here and say so. However, I am not holding my breath. And no, I am not chasing after LB; let him track and pay what he owes. If he can't/prefers not to he deserves to continue as a pariah. A first step would be to contact Mark Wrigley at e-Rocks, obtain (if he does not have already have it it) a list of e-Rocks users who he has bilked and settle with all in full. That at least would show a serious intent to make good.
I can write off my (small) loss.. The question is, whether he can permanently write off any reputation for honesty and as a reliable trader?. My congratulaltion to Pavel but 'one swallow does not make a Summer'.
ryan christensen March 14, 2012 08:41PMI could see this possibly being a honest mistake on Minerals_rsa, but now that Steve and Scott have come forward, theres definitly something fishy going on here. If Scott is correct, he has been waiting for his minerals 10 months now, really? Ridiculous. This is the exact reason why buying minerals online leaves a bad taste in alot of buyers mouths! Sad.
Jorge Santos Garcia March 22, 2012 11:00AMI started this thread just to advice others not to be cheated as I was, as I had lost all hope of getting my specimen. When Luka said he wanted to solve things, that were good and unexpected news. Good for Pavel, at least one of us got what had paied for. I must say that Luka send me one specimen and wrote me saying that it was not the specimen I've bought but if I want he would send me the real one. I reply to him saying I want the one I have paied for and that I will send the wrong one back to him. He kindly said to keep it he will send the other that same week (in january). I received nothing more nor he reply to my other mails. At least I don't losse everything but my business with him is not finished.
I agree with Owen. Luka has the opportunity, the means and the time to show us the bad times he say he had are over and that he wants to really solve things, but his acts don't go along with his words.
Scott Duncan March 28, 2012 06:07PMI still do not have my minerals, despite the promise from this person that "your specimens will be posted next week thursday as soon as i am back from zimbabwe". That was January 13. More recent attempts failed to generate any further response. I suspect he prefers to draw the conversation away from this message board, read by most who love this hobby. Private attempts at a resolution are simply ignored.
This person is a fraud, a thief, and a liar. Do NOT deal with him.
Ed Rowse August 20, 2012 02:18PMWell, I can only add my experience too, that I ordered a specimen from Luka Berkovic back in early 2011, and have yet to receive it as of August 2012. I got his invoice, paid it promptly and then..black hole. Nothing. He responds to no emails. I have to conclude that, just like in every business, there are a few pirates. He isn't to be trusted and i will never deal with him again.
On the positive side, Mark Wrigley is doing a great job of dealing with many people and is a good person having always dealt fairly and honestly with me. I love eRocks. But Luka in South Africa is a crook.
Yan Beaudet August 22, 2012 06:27PMhi. i do business with Luka this month .i received my order in a week without problem .i think he try to regain the trust of his customers.the only thing i can say it's than he must more explain his combined shipping policy and anwser faster to his messages. i heard stories from ebay members this summer but personnaly nothing abnormal happens .i paid more for shipping than i first expected but my package was well packed and go with tracking and insurance .the specimens was as discribed .bye
Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/24/2012 09:07PM by Yanick Beaudet.
Norman King April 13, 2015 01:38PMI bought a nice specimen from him about four years ago through e-rocks. Paid my hundred-plus bucks and postage, and that is the last I heard from him. But I did learn my lesson. I'm trainable! He deserves to be disgraced, and he brought it on himself.
