Techniques for CollectorsNeed help locating a decent lapidary saw

17th Jan 2009 17:04 UTCSue Moore

Need help locating a good, but reasonably priced lapidary saw. We're amateurs at this doing it for fun for two of my sons. Any recommendations or suggestions. We have a bunch of small thundereggs that we'd like to split.

I don't know where you are, but see if there is a local gem/mineral club/society. Most of these have some form of workshop that is available for members. Ours is small, but we have slab saw, trim saw, cabbing machines, silversmith area and a general workbench area.

worst case scenario , go to the nearest rock shop and ask them to saw them for you, if you cannot find a club with a workshop..a saw can be expensive if you buy it for just a few rocks..
