Bought this extremely rare Triplite crystal many years back from
a man in Gilgit. At that time I did not know what it was and
neither did the man I bought it from.
This crystal is transparent and weighs 45carats. As far as I know
there is a 2.5carat cut piece of Triplite in the Smithsonian
Institute and is considered extremely rare.
Some of my collector friends told me that this could be worth
a fortune but I really don't know.
Anybody out there has an idea about what the value of this
piece of mine would be. Would appreciate your opinion.
Thanks.

If the specimen is to be valued as gem rough you would have to estimate how bit a stone(s) you could cut from it and how clean the resulting stones would be. I can't tell enough from the picture to be able to estimate that. From the photos it would appear that you might be able to cut a translucent cab(s) from the specimen but not faceted stones. So from the pictures it would not appear to be worth all that much.

first of all you really have to know the true meaning of the words you are useing in describing this mineral example........extremely and rare ok the defanitions are as follows extremely =the greatest utmost degree, drastic expedient and. Rare =infrequently occuring; uncommon or in you case Rare=cooked a short time as in a piece of steak. your sample looksa like a either a drasticly over cooked piece of bacon or maybe you just happen to want it rare. value check is...............................$22.00 have a nice day
