I've recently obtained a specimen with small aquamarines on a quartz crystal matrix. Label gives the locality as Donna Digs (Mine), Warner Springs District, San Diego County, California. I can find no reference to this locality. Can anyone share any information?

The Donna is a short ways up the Lost Valley Truck Trail from the Cryo-Genie mine. I have never been so I can't give more precise info. I hear it referred to mostly as the Donna Claim or Donna Lode.

Thanks, Jim. Do you know of any literature on the locality? Do you have the power to add this locality to Mindat?

Steve,

I have information on the deposit, and will add the locality to mindat over the next couple of days.

Hi Steve,

I added the locality to the database, needs more work but it's a start. I was wondering, who's label actually says Donna 'Digs'? I'm hesitant to use the word 'digs', since it appears nowhere in any of my references... I'll admit that I find it ponderous when people (dealers) feel the need to add 'cutesy' terms to labels to compensate for locality ignorance... these errors just seem to perpetuate and snowball into infinity! grinning smiley

It's on the label of a friend who I would categorize as reliable, but not knowledgeable, about this particular locality.

Hi Steve,

If you really want me to add 'Donna Digs' to the list of alternate names, I will... just let me know exactly how your label is spelled so we can get at least get the 'wrong' right. smileys with beer I always liked the term 'diggings', but 'digs' just sounds more like beatnik slang to me!

Beatnick, a much better description than cutesy. A lone vote not adding Donna Digs to the locality string for the reason you gave post before last, Scott.
