The numbering system is better than Kelly suggests. Specimens with numbers under 10000 are pre- Vaux bequest, but are otherwise not in chronological order, because they were numbered later. The specimens with higher numbers are in approximate chronological order and you can roughly figure it out. It should be noted that some older specimens were not cataloged until much later, and so have much higher numbers- I have an H. Seybert piece (donated 1825) which has a catalog number in the 20000's, meaning it was cataloged in the 1920's. This is somewhat unusual however and all my other Seybert specimens have numbers under 10000.
