Coisas Preciosas labels??

II have seen a number of older labels carrying the name “Coisas Preciosas”. Does anyone have any information on theses labels and where/when they originated? Thanks as always - Bill

Those are the labels of Bob Jenkins, former geologist at DuPont; resident of Newark, Delaware; and author of the Mineralogical Record issue on the Butte, Montana area. Bob passed away on October 4, 2010. He was a part-time mineral dealer and, as a geologist rather than a "pretty specimen" collector, always had a wealth of unusual and interesting material to offer. Though never a wealthy man, his prices were always low. I miss him.

Bill,

The business was owned by Bob Jenkins from Delaware. He was a retired mining engineer and geologist. He died several years ago from cancer. You should contact the Delaware Mineralogical society (club) where you can get more info if you email the president of the club.

Best,

Bill,
"coisas preciosas" is portuguese language and means "precious things". The labels are most probably from a brazilian mineral dealer.

His labels weren't from a Brazilian dealer. His wife was from Brazil and came up with the name for his dealership.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I have a specimen with this label a friend gave me years ago and I always wondered -- I figured it was a wandering Brazilian dealer as well!

It would be great if someone with this info pinged the Mineralogical Record folks to add it to their biographical archive. I just took a look over there and the only Robert Jenkins is a "Robert A. Jenkins" of Arizona associated with "The Adit". I can try to dig up that label and take a photo to send along.

Cheers,
D.

In fact, "our" Robert Jenkins is Robert E. Jenkins, not Robert A. Jenkins. Both are/were PhD's and were obviously involved in the science simultaneously. Quite a coincidence we had going here! Bob was a fantastic man with a solid knowledge base of mineralogy, ore paragenesis and geochemistry, as well as having been a miner/mining engineer. He loved Franklin, NJ, and Butte, MT, minerals, as well as Brazilian minerals. He worked for DuPont in Brazil (fluorite exploration and mining) and met his lovely wife there. May he RIP.
Robert E Jenkins
