GeneralHale/Andrews Quarry

Has anyone from Connecticut or surrounding states been granted permission to the old Hale/Andrews quarry in Portland, CT? Research shows the landowner to be Marshall H. Andrews, is this still accurate? If so, does anyone have a good working repoire with this individual so I may explore the old quarry on his land? Any information is greatly appreciated. I'm relatively new to rockhounding and find it extremely interesting and fun. Thank you.

As far as I know this is still off limites, posted and patrolled from time to time by police. I contacted the owner about 6-7 years ago and he was adamant about not allowing anyone on the property because of liability issues. Seems someone vandalized some heavy equipment years ago and there are also storage sheds on the property with blasting equipment for his construction business.

Rick,

Thanks for the information, it's a shame about the vandalism, I would have liked to visit that site. My focus recently has changed from Beryl to Herkimer Diamonds. I've been to Ace of Diamonds, Middleville, NY 3 times so far, the last two trips I got smart and hauled rocks back home. :-D I have enough to go through for the nex two months and plan on using the tailings to reinforce a rock wall. Dolostone is extremely hard and looks to be a good choice for a wall. Thanks again.
