GeneralHaving problems entering field of view on photos? Please read.

Please note that numerical formats on mindat are English style, so it uses a decimal point not a comma to divide the integer and fractional part of a number, eg

Field of view 1.5mm. is correct

Field of view 1,5mm is incorrect and will not be accepted by the system.

Please do not use measurements such as 1,5mm in your descriptions.

thank you!

It should be added that not all the fields are requiered to be filled.

Some users fills the "specimen size" fields with the used box size (example : 28 x 28 x 22mm - see for example Daniel Journet). Maybe a warning pop-up window should be added when some numbers are entered together ?

It wouldn't be annoying for most of the users, as few percents of samples exactly matches the sizes of standard micromount or jousy boxes. the window should be separated of the warning windows appearing when you validate a new entry (I mainly use the keyboard and use to press "enter key" twice without reading while validating).

Hi Pascal,

For my point of view, the way that Daniel use the dimension field is not a problem.

By using dimensions of the European MM boxes both with the field of view of his photography, we are very well informed about the size of his sample and how close was taken his photo.

The way Daniel is entering the data IS wrong and confusing, and we should ask him to stop.

If he doesn't want to measure each specimen then adding just the field of view is appropriate.

I would like a clarification please, for new users like myself. If the above (28 x 28 x 22mm) is incorrect, how should we write it?

By entering the field of view instead of the size of the box
