Generalled lighting

11th Aug 2014 21:28 UTCDave Owen

I'm considering adding led lighting to a couple display cases. The options are 3000k, 3500k, 4100k and 6500k. What is normally used? Thanks Dave

LED lights

What is normally used is what you like. To kinda sorta summarize the referenced thread - 6500K will be on the blue side of color, 3000K is on the red side of color, 4100K....well.... In photography, 6500K was used as a "daylight" benchmark; with LEDs, it's not the same. Basically, you have to find a dealer that has working displays (of the LEDs), and try to see if the selected "color" meets your needs.

If you want to get really fancy you might want to consider checking out some of the lighting subforums on websites devoted to marine reef/coral aquariums. I knew quite a few guys on one who made custom setups that included LEDs with adjustable color temperatures and brightness levels that could be changed around for different viewing and photography setups.
