GeneralGreenalite locality

9th Sep 2014 05:25 UTCJamie Cheshire

I have a greenalite thumbnail from a locality that doesn't seem to exist:

La Unión Mine, Cartagena, Murcia, Spain

The specimen is fine-grained, massive greenalite, with a little galena included. No "La Unión Mine" is listed for Cartagena or the town of La Unión. Where might this have come from?

Thanks much!

James

Hi James,

at http://tuplaneta.es/docs/LaUnion.jpg you can find a map with the mining concessions at the Sierra de Cartagena. There was a "La Union" concession near the city of Cartagena, in section C4. No idea if the concession was ever mined.

Cheers,

Stefan

Hi James,

My opinion is that even if there was a "La Unión Mine", the name "La Unión" is used generally for the district. Greenalite is found literaly everywhere in the Cartagena - La Unión mining district . There are millions of tons there!. The best greenalite specimens are included in quartz, forming deep green to dark green prase quartzs to 7 cm.

Regards

Iván
