GeneralDana 8th Edition Classification Question

17th Sep 2014 11:04 UTCMarc Gravel

Anyone know what the Dana Classification is for Fluoro-richterite?

17th Sep 2014 11:54 UTCDavid Von Bargen Manager

It isn't listed as a mineral in the book.

Interesting, the IMA Status for Fluoro-richterite is 'Approved 1994', which I assume Fluoro-richterite was approved as a Mineral in that year. Dana 8th Edition was published in 1997 - why then not include it?

Oversight ?

17th Sep 2014 16:50 UTCAlfredo Petrov Manager

Marc, Dana 8th was infamous for the lack of proofreading and correction before it went to press.

Which is the better classification to use? Dana, Strunz, Nickel-Strunz?

17th Sep 2014 17:36 UTCTony Nikischer 🌟 Manager

Jim Ferraiolo kept an on-going update of Dana numbers; he listed fluororichterite as 66.1.15.3 (Strunz 9.DE.20)

Awesome Tony - I'll make a note of it (tu)

Actually the only fluorine rich amphibole that is listed is fluor-ferro-leakeite.
