GeneralChanges in search options?

22nd Sep 2015 18:46 UTCLuca Baralis Expert

Since some times I've some problems in the search Mindat option. It is now really hard to find place in Italy!

For example, If I look for "Susa" (as in "Susa valley") it will find "Texas, USA", "Arkansas, USA", but not "Susa".

Maybe there is something wrong in my searching way, but it seems a really odd behaviour.

It depends upon the search that you use. If you use the general search at the top of the page, you get limited location options (you can then use the search all locations link to get all the locations - you can also use the locality search at the bottom of the page to get there directly). In this particular case using "susa valley" or "susa italy" as search term will return the values you want.

The locality search uses the locality string converted to A-Z and numbers as well as the search string so the search can find matches across words. The secondary searches look for entire words matching between the search string and search terms.

You can use how the system works to solve your problem.

enter susav into the search

Well, it is a really extended search! A little too much, imho. Finding "s, USA" for "Susa" is messy and less user friedly. By the way, Susa was only an example. However, knowing it , I'll find some workaround, as the ones suggested.

Thanks,
