GeneralBicolored Elbaite from the Strickland Quarry

23rd Oct 2016 16:56 UTCTony Albini

Years ago, I field collected with the owner's permission 4 specimens of bicolored elbaite from the Famous Strickland quarry in Portland, CT. Two of these are Mindat photos 475500 and 509995 on my photos page. I am trying to find out if other collectors have seen this odd color change from a dark green black to an aquamarine color, I have not seen these any other tourmalines. Please let me know if you have seen these type of color change in elbaite elsewhere.

I've seen this color change in Afghani tourmalines. I wouldn't call it rare, but nor would I call it common.
