Hehe, maybe an elephant stepped on it?
I once sent a small box to the USA, and my friend used the same box to send stuff back,
so this box had gone over the atlantic twice. It came back to me looking like a soccer ball,
with no corners left at all!
I really don't know what they do with these sometimes!
In the postoffice here, I give my box to this guy, with 3 stickers saying 'fragile' on it, and he
tosses it in this huge box 3 meters away from him...
Oh well...
Greetings from France,
Eddy

I used to work in the post office and they do toss boxes while sorting mail. But it isn't just that they toss them...they bounce them off the wall first and then the boxes drop into the bin!...Then they toss more, and most likely heavier boxes, on top of your "fragile" package. This type of handling will happen every time your box is routed while on the way to it's addressee.
I strongly suggest packing anything you are concerned about with the "box in box" method. That is, pack the mineral just as you normally would for shipping. THEN, pack that box into another larger box with packing material (paper, foam, popcorn, bubblewrap, etc.) between all sides, top and bottom of the two boxes. If the inner box is heavy, use firmer packing and a larger outer box. We have received things packed this way where the outer box is virtually smashed into a ball and the inner box was untouched. Of course, if the mineral is truly fragile, it needs to be adequately supported to protect it from the shock of sudden stops when the box lands!
Hope these suggestions help with your future shipping ventures.

Howdy All,
Well the box is back on it's way, this time instead of being just boxed, it's boxed and then inside a 'tough' envelope, which itself is quite hard to break open, and the address is not on a label sticker, but actually written on envelope so they can't loose part of it!...lol
Cheers Mark
