Techniques for CollectorsLocation for a give-away at the Tucson micromount symposium

6th Apr 2012 21:13 UTCHenry Barwood

At the Arthur Roe Micromount Symposium during Tucson I picked up some specimens of zeolites in basalt (?). My handwriting was unfortunately uninterpretable and all I can make out for the locality is:

Big U ____ Mtn.

Greenlee County, AZ

No locations in Mindat seem to match anything close to this. Can anyone help me out with a probable/potential location?

Could it be Big Lue Mountains?

Cheers, Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,

Could be, but my specimens appear to have only zeolites in them.

Hello Henry (again).... Coal Creek in the Big Lue Mts is a good location for micro collectors... hollandite, heulandite, mesolite, as of 1992. What species have been added since (of zeolites) I'm not sure. Other species include pseudobrookite, titanite, hematite, tridymite, phlogopite, quartz, calcite, and a couple of yet-to-be identified amphiboles .....
