I have a micro of dachiardite with clinoptilolite labeled "Coon Hollow, California". Is this actually the Opal Hill mine in Riverside county? My specimen shows dachiardite crystals very similar to those pictured under Opal Hill mine. The only Coon Hollow localities listed in Mindat are placer mines up north.

Hi Ron,

This link references Daciardite from Coon Hollow, three miles South of Wiley Wells, Riverside Co., CA. I would guess that this is the correct locality.

Cheers,
Gene

Thanks Gene
I got an egg carton from Tim Rose at the NCMA meet of material from Opal Hill and after doing some detective work it turns out that the Opal Hill local and Wiley Well are very close and probably the same local. After comparing the map pages for Mule mts and Wiley Well the site is about the same. The Opal Hill material is red basalt with quartz, opal, fluorapatite, clinoptilolite and dachiardite found so far. I guess the site had some nice fire agate at one time.
Take care
Ron
