2012 MICROMOUNTERS OF NEW ENGLAND ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM
Featuring Two Special Guest Speakers:
Terry “Skip” Szenics "Purple Apatite at Pulsifer Quarry,Mt. Apatite,Auburn,Maine
The subject of Terry's presentation, the mining of purple apatite specimens from the Pulsifer Quarry, Mt. Apatite, Auburn, Maine, started as a very lucky series of events. The success he had with the mining operations there in 1966 and 1967 put him firmly on the map as a world renown field collector and mineral specimen dealer. Terry Szenics is well known for his namesake mineral szenicsite.
Dr. John Jaszcak "Unexpected Treasures: Micromineral Graphite from New York and New England"
In 1992 Dr. Jaszczak became the first adjunct curator of the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum, which is part of Michigan Tech. In 2007 he earned the university's Distinguished Faculty Service Award for his work with the museum and the Seaman Mineral Museum Society. John is currently professor of physics at Michigan Tech. John's mineralogical research and collecting interests include graphite, diamond, molybdenite, tungtenite, wurtzite, cinnabar, and unusual crystal morphologies. According to his database, he has over 3281 cataloged entries, 1599 of which are graphite specimens. He has authored or co-authored articles related to minerals for Rocks and Minerals, Mineralogical Record, American Mineralogist, Canadian Mineralogist, and Carbon, and enjoys macro and micro mineral photography.
The Symposium is an all day structured affair with catered lunch, door prize, giant sales table, what is, most likely, the largest micromineral giveaway tables on the east coast and a chance to reunite with friends old and new. Many of our guests are well known in the mineral community and the symposium is a great opportunity to meet folks whose articles you have read and whose pictures you have envied. Well, I know I have!

This is an action packed day that is sure to please! Bring your scope!
Our sales table is comprised this year of several thousand mounted specimens all at exceedingly low prices. We had literally a thousand new specimens donated this year that have never been on the table before, notably, donations were given to us by Gene Bearss and Ron Lepage.
We also continue to open giveaway material from the Palermo #1 Mine, collected in the mid-80's and lots of great Mont St Hilaire from the same time period.
This year's door prize is a dual gooseneck fiber optic lighting system by Amscope!
Wait! There's more! We will also have an auction table with a pair of mineral cabinets from the woodworking shop of famous micromounter Steve Cares. These cabinets are 12 drawers each and stand about 2 feet tall. Perfect for a good sized micro collection. Also on the sales table will be commemorative mugs, special collections and never opened boxes of Palermo material.
