Mineralogical Record Art Museum

My favorites are John Sinkankas and Wendell Wilson.

Those Wendell Wilson oil paintings are just TOO freaking amazing! I'd sell my soul off for that talent!

John Sinkankas, just beautiful. Painted as the specimen is in real life. That's what it is all about. My favorite!

Eberhard Equit, wow...the way he gets the detail in there with the combination of watercolors and colored pencil...amazing.

Rose Ann Fox...I'd like to publish the coloring book! Very cool illustrative images!

Susan Robinson...I love the way everything is done like a scene laid out before you. That Asbestos garnet is just too good.

So, what are your favorites?

Mineral Art...not that popular of a topic to talk about.

Still rocks your freaking small little world though. Mineral Art...Whoot!

Justin, I am an art fan (favoring oils on board/canvas and abstract & California Impressionists). While at at gallery this weekend in Boston, I thought about how cool it would be for someone to paint a "semi-abstract" (if that's possible) painting of vanadinite from the Geronimo Mine. I can barely budget for high class minerals, let alone art. But I certainly support all artists and their craft. You're doing a good job to bring awareness to the subject. It certainly deserves a place here.

I didn't get the artist gene like most of my family, but I still try with my cheap oils, $1 brushes and canvases.

My favourite mineral books have been those with artwork rather than photos.

The fantastic Palermo book, for example!

My favorite is Hildegard Könighofer, for her amazing handling of light and reflections.

There are two Russian artists whose work is phenomenal, Victor Slyotov and Vladimir Makarenko (see [mindraw.narod.ru]). I think that the one attached is one of theirs (I bought it at Tucson in 2007).

...and I'm with you on Fred Wilda's art Gail. I had seen his prints before going to Tucson. They are nice but I much prefer originals to prints. In the attached photo is a topaz - just below Fred's chest-level. I bought that one in 2007 too.

Steve

I rather like Brandy Naugle's art too!

The only mineral artists' work I'm familiar with are Brandy Naugle, Wendell Wilson, and Susan Robinson - all of them excellent!
Brandy is still very young, so we can expect lots more great stuff in future. Why isn't she listed on the Min Rec virtual art museum yet, or did I miss her?
Oh, I forgot Sarah Sudcowski's minerals with adorable naked fairies (the minerals can be very good too).

Re: semi-abstract vanadinite
In the early '90's we had an office decorated with paintings based on the artist's impressions of macro and micro views of minerals. At that time she lived in Victoria, BC, but may have had plans to move to the Washington DC area. Her name is Wendy Luco (sp). If anybody knows her whereabouts, her work would be appreciated by anyone that likes a mix of art and minerals. I will see if I have any photos to post.
