EducationTurquoise on carminite

21st Jan 2017 10:01 UTCPascal Chollet Expert

Hi everybody.

I've had a discussion with my friend Yannick Vessely : she recently found turquoise crystalline balls on carminite at "les Montmins mine - France.

I asked her if she was sure that the turquoise wasn't misidentified (visual), as the carminite-scorodite association was far much frequent.

She today uploaded the photos on mindat :

The habit actually matches turquoise group rather than scorodite (althought it remains a little bit questionnable...).

2 days ago I searched carminite photos on mindat with added keyword scorodite. search returned me 4 pages of results. A similar search of carminite photos with turquoise (and next chalcosiderite) as keyword returned me 0 results. so we were wondering why the association of these 2 minerals was so rare, althought they can be both frequents in a same locality ?

in a larger way, is arsenates and phosphate association very rare ?

Thanks

Pascal

I think you need more than "the habit actually matches turquoise group" to say it is turquiose. That is not to say it is scorodite either, it may be something entirely different.
