I added the Spanish Wulfenite localities to your Wulfenite set-up Rock: [www.mindat.org] . Anyone interested in adding some other countries locs to it (Ralph, how about the Australian, I could mail Chris Auer if he would like to do Bleiberg, Austria and Mezica, Slovenia but who has the time to do the USA......Rock
)

Guys, I added some new localities and pics to the Emerald article and to some of the Belgian ones.
I also restyled the lay-out of the complete Wulfenite article (I hope you don't mind Rock.....), mainly the tedious job of changing all the width parameters to hight parameters for all the photos.
In the end it will be very nice if all the articles have the same lay-out, just like all chapters of a book have a corresponding lay-out.

If no-one objects, I'd like to dig myself into the amphibole group. I know it's a monsterous task, and it will require patience from you guys as it will probably take years to "complete". I have already set up a matrix on how the different species relate to each other, and I envision a group of articles structured like this:
Level1: The amphibolite series article linking directly to the other articles
Level 1a: I will possibly/probably need som articles on the amphibole subgrous
Level 2: Rather than putting together an article for each species, I would like to prepare series articles, such as the ferro-actinolite-actinolite-tremolite series, the nybøite-series , arfvedsonite-series etc. and then
Level 3: tie the species name to each entry within an article.
Consequently, there should be no actinolite articel and no "Fluoro-potassic-magnesio-arfvedsonite" article as the individual minerals will be describedd in the series article. I propose this as the individual amphibole minerals are very difficult to identify, and also it will make the writing a little bit easier.
Ok?

Olav,
You are a brave man to undertake such a job. Lets see if a few other people will weigh in on their thoughts on the project. We certainly can use an article on the amphaboles. Usually people come looking for information about particular minerals and can find them easily in the way we currently have best minerals set up but the current setup will almost certainly change in the future so by all means lets see what you can do. When Harjo wanted to do an article on Schalenblende, I was a bit doubtful how that would come out, but I think everyone was surprised and amazed and delighted by what he put together. Certainly an article on the Amphaboles would not be out of place. When I was writing the article on Actinolite, I sometimes wondered just what in the hell I was doing anyway. Were they all actinolites?, tremolites? all the same, the dark and light green ones? I felt I was working in outer space. Well, I did it anyway and we can sort it out later and change it any way we want in the future. I wish I could find someone to do an article on chalcedony/agates/jasper. Unfortunately there appear to be no agate/thunder egg nuts on mindat to upload good pictures of these items.

The Mindat dtabase seemed an impossible task when first suggested, but with some keen people anything is possible.
The grouping in amphiboles is problematic: there are two main groups, the orthorhombic group (anthophyllite, gedrite etc) and clinoamphiboles (everything else). The problem is with the latter group is everything can potentially form a series with every other member. They are usually subdivided further as:
- Mg-Mn-Fe-Li Clino-Amphibole Subgroup
- Calcic Clino-Amphibole Subgroup
- Sodic Clino-Amphibole Subgroup
- Mg-Fe-Mn-Li Ortho-Amphibole Subgroup
There are still intermediates between these subgroups, but it may work better than splitting or lumping things too much.
Some like actinolite may still be OK a separate entities (as we have separted emerald from beryl)
Regards,
Ralph

I updated the Belgian Quartz page: [www.mindat.org] , the Belgian Fluorite page: [www.mindat.org] and the Belgian Baryte page: [www.mindat.org]
I hope to get some spare time in a couple of weeks to start the Topaz articles......

Still plan to do all barite; will be able to resume in November. Finished UK and a couple of smaller countries. If Ralph does all of Australia that would be great, to incorporate something in its entirety. Also Harjo is doing Belgium barite, thank goodness. I would like to do the others with massive input, but let me know. Need help with Japan especially. Any volunteers? I think the other countries will not be too difficult, just time consuming.
