There are a number of "Rock and Gem" shows during the year at various venues, but these are pretty slim on real mineral specimens. The best shows focusing on minerals are the Bakewell show in Derbyshire, which was a few weeks ago, and the Hayward's Heath show in Sussex, which is next weekend. The Oxford shows are also worth checking out. I believe these will be listed in the diary here on Mindat.

I will be going to the Haywards heath show and I understand that Jolyon will be judging the zeolite competition being held. Is anyone else going?

The Sussex Mineral and Lapidary Society's Mineral Show is in The Clair Hall, Haywards Heath (near the Railway Station), from 10.30am to 4pm but NOT next weekend; it's on Saturday 14th November.

In addition to the many mineral sales stands, run by most of the UK's main dealers, catering for everyone with bugets ranging from kid's pocket money to lotterry winners, there will also be several exhibition features.

These will include a fluorescent minerals room with UV-lit displays, demonstrations of lapidary techniques and gold panning, and a special display of specimens from the Heddle Collection from the National Museum of Scotland, with a presentation about the Geological collections of the NMS by the Curator of Minerals, Peter Davidson. There will also be talks on dinosaur fossils (by Mike Smith), and mineral collecting in Nenthead (by Ivor Thurgood).

Tim is correct that Jolyon is going to be judging the competition, which will consist of cabinet displays of zeolites and associated minerals..

Edited for typos & spelling errors, and to add PS - I'll be there!
