My name is Chad Cramer and I'm the Show Chairman for the Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society. I normally would not write an article to promote a show, but feel I need to explain some new details for this year. We have always had our show in Portland Maine, but due to some difficulties with our past venue,we decided to move our show. We found a great place with Saint Joseph's College of Maine. They have been more than helpful and very accommodating. This year with the Maine Mineral Symposium being canceled, we decided to add four speakers. Our first one is Frank Perham. He will be talking about his adventures of mining in Maine. If you never heard Frank speak you won't want to miss this. Frank is a great story teller. He will be speaking at 10:30 am on Saturday 21st. Harry Blake with Central Maine Gold Prospectors will be talking about "how to find gold in Maine". Harry will be speaking at 2:00 pm on Saturday 21st. Karen Pride of Cross Jewelers will be speaking on Sunday 22nd. She will be discussing Maine tourmaline. Cross Jewelers has one of the biggest hoard of Maine tourmaline. I'm sure the new Sparhawk teal tourmaline will be mentioned. Also we have Derek Katzenbach who will be giving demonstrations on faceting and cabbing. We are not trying to take the place of the symposium, but felt we could offer something special for our customers. The show will be April 21st 10am to 5pm and 22nd 10am to 4pm. Located at Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 278 Whites Bridge Road, Standish, Maine. We will have 26 dealers offering everything from minerals, crystals, gems, jewelry, fossils and one of kinds. There will be plenty for the kids to do mini-mine, spin wheel, touch table and our own Young Rockhounds of America will be there to discuss there program. The silent auction will be going both days with plenty of great minerals to add to your collection. We will also have displays from the Havey Quarry and Mary Groves will be bringing some of her displays from Poland Mining Camp. Saint Joseph's College will be display mineral, fluorescent minerals and faceted stones including a special centennial stone cut by Steve Bridge. Door prizes will be awarded every hour and our grand prize will be a cut tourmaline mounted from the Havey Quarry. I hope to see you all there in April. If there are any questions you can PM me for answers. Our website is www.mainemineralclub.org. You can download a discount coupon at our site.

Every year, I see many of Maine's top mineral collectors at Rochester, I think about 12 years ago, it seemed more like a Maine show with perhaps the 15-20 in attendance far from the pale of the Pine Tree Curtain. It would seem that the dealers at the Portland Show would welcome the buying power back to their tables?
