Mineral ShowsGoing to Gilsum, NH . . . June 23 - 24, 2012

25th May 2012 13:21 UTCDon Kauffman

ROCKHOUNDS!

Less than thirty days until the greatest outdoor rock swap and mineral show in the U.S. GILSUM, New Hampshire! We're setting our plans and getting ready to go. We leave PA on June 20 to arrive at out base in Brattleboro, VT the same day. We have about a day and a half to two days of relaxing and prospecting prior to setup on the school grounds.

This year, the incomparable Steve Garza will offer a Saturday evening talk on "Prospecting for Beginners." The legendary Jim Tovey will offer a Saturday afternoon presentation on how he mines gemmy beryl at the local Tripp Mine and processes the material into beautiful faceted jewelry.

A great mineral show, great food, fabulous people. This is a vacation as well as a two day enterprise for us.

We're looking forward to seeing our many friends from far and wide. They are too numerous to mention.

Look us up at space #18! :-)

We've been to Gilsum a few years ago, Rachel. Pretty little town and even got to meet the "great" Wayne Corwin at the Tripp for a few hours before the rains moved in. One of these years we'll get to Gilsum for the show, when time allows.....

Well another great Gilsum show has come and gone, I dont know what it is but it's just such a different, friendly show!

It was nice to see old friends and make new ones too! Uhgggg only 364 more days till the next one:-(

I find it instructive that Andrew refers to this event as the Gilsum show; I went on Sunday, spent an hour checking all the sites twice and saw NO swappers. To me, this marks the end of a glorious tradition.

Don, you must have missed my booth. I did swaps with everyone who asked. All kids, no adults inquired. I think most folks set up at the show would do swaps if asked.

26th Jun 2012 02:37 UTCAndrew Brodeur

I swapped also and as Mark said...it seems that only kids still swap actively. I have only been going to Gilsum the last 4 years, I didnt know it when it was mainly or only a swap. I like Gilsum, I have a blast, make friends and make some money..I hear GRS veterans tell their stories of shows gone by and they are great but also think that the show has evolved just as everything else does and 20 years from now it will probly be a bit different than it is today, I hope im there to see it! I dont fight change i roll with it and i will ROCK ON at the Gilsum show!
