Mineral ShowsFree Franklin-Ogdensburg photography at Rochester Symposium

18th Apr 2014 16:44 UTCVandall Thomas King Manager

The Rochester Mineral Symposium is coming soon and people with outstanding specimens from Franklin-Ogdensburg, New Jersey are invited to bring specimens for consideration to be photographed for free to be used as an illustration in the 2015 book Mineralogy of Franklin and Ogdensburg, New Jersey. A Photographic Celebration. Correctly identified specimens are, of course, needed, but there are several species indicated that require particular documentation, because they are look-alikes with similar species. Metallic minerals, for example, need to be distinguishable from other species and not in a homogeneous mixture. Species particularly desired include: adamite, adelite, analcime, annabergite, arsenic, arseniosiderite, atacamite, austinite, axinite-(Fe), bariopharmacosiderite, bassanite, baumhauerite, berthierite, bianchite, breithauptite, bultfonteinite, canavesite, carrollite, caryopilite, chalcopyrite crystals, chondrodite (verified), cianciulliite, clinochlore, clinohumite, clintonite (actually from Franklin), conichalcite, connellite, covellite, cuprite, cuprostibite, cyprine (terminated crystals), digenite, djurleite, domeykite, duftite, dundasite, epsomite, erythrite, euchroite, eveite, feitknechtite, ferrimolybdite, flinkite, fluckite, fraipontite, ganomalite, gersdorffite, glaucodot, goldmanite, greenockite, hawleyite, hellandite-(Y), hexahydrite, hubnerite, junitoite, kaolinite (verified), kittatinnyite, larsenite, laumontite, liroconite, loseyite, marcasite, mcallisterite, monazite-(Ce), natrolite, nontronite (verified), ojuelaite, orthoserpierite, otavite, pararammelsbergite, pharmacolite, pharmacosiderite, piemontite, powellite, pumpellyite-Mg, pyrophanite, pyrosmalite-Mn, pyroxferroite, pyrrhotite crystals, rammelsbergite, romeite, safflorite, samfowlerite, sauconite, schorl (verified), seligmannite, sepiolite, serpierite, skutterudite, spangolite, starkeyite, chalcodite/ferristilpnomelane, strontianite, sussexite crystals, synadelphite, szaibelyite, tetrahedrite, thorite, thortveitite (visible, i. e. at least 25 microns), torreyite, uranophane, wawayandaite, wendwilsonite, wulfenite, zinalsite. Several of the above species have already been photographed, but additional photos are needed. Particularly fine and photogenic specimens are needed for many species for which good photos have already been taken. Great allactite, alleghanyite, hancockite, etc. are desired. Please see Van King at the symposium if you have brought some of these species with you. Photos will be image stacked and micromount specimens with great crystals are welcome as well as larger specimens.
