Improving Mindat.orgquestion on photo

26th Nov 2005 23:57 UTCrichard h deitch

for Tamar Mines, Bere Alston, Tavistock District, Devon, England, UK, I noticed that the only mineral listed is Arsenopyrite, but the pic shows fluorite which, if its the correct pic, that mineral should be listed also. Arsenopyrite could be wrong; needs to be checked. I found this as I was looking at an old label on the back of a fluorite specimen that I have where the location is written as "Beeralston" Devonshire

Hi Richard

The Tamar mines were a group of lead mines that worked in Bere Alston during the 1800s (and much earlier). They were particularly

known for fluorite specimens, but one of the mines, Tamar Consols, did produce specimens of arsenopyrite. Often labels do not differentiate specific mines though.

I will have a look at the group and see if I can try and tidy them up a bit.

I think I put the fluorite photo on when 'Tamar Mines' was the only entry.

It came from the dump material at SX436654, whichever one that is.

I'll delete it and put it back in the appropriate locality once Ian's sorted them out!

No it didn't, it came from SX435644. (Having trouble with Mindat's new maps).

Sorry for the additional confusion.
