Improving Mindat.orgMartite

8th Jun 2012 21:16 UTCChris Deroo

Hi,

The Martite page states :

Originally described from Itabira, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil.

Breithaupt in his description from 1828 in the 'Jahrbuch für Chemie und Physik' 54 pages 158-159

only mentions Itapicuru, which is in the Bahia State, and an unknown Araosoiava.

So where does Itabira come from ?

Hello Chris,

- "Araosoiava" is probably "Araçoiaba da Serra" in Sao Paulo state, Brazil: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ara%C3%A7oiaba_da_Serra

- a reference for Martite occurrence at Itabira can be found here : http://vsites.unb.br/ig/sigep/sitio042/sitio042english.pdf

Hope this helps

Vik
