Rhodochrosite

Andrew,
You can see your additions in place now in the rhodochrosite article. What more can you tell us. What kind of mine is this. Were the specimens collected underground or from benches in an open cut? Were these about as good as they got? Is the mine still producing specimen? What kind of mine is it? Base metal? Were clubs allowed to collect?

I would add that the Rhodocrosite from the Eagle Mine you have listed, are nbot Rhodocrosite, but actually Mangano Siderite>

Can you give me a reference to that mineralman? I suspect you are right, but I need a reference and I can't put the street name for someone who does not want to identify themselves.

Hello everyone!
Rhodochrosite specimens from Slovakia listed in this article is from Banská Štiavnica.
Here is small description of specimens from Banská Štiavnica: Rhodochrosite usually
forms small pale pink crystals grouped to the botryoidal aggregates. Best specimens
are isolated botryoidal pale pink aggregates or groups of rhodochrosite crystals which
cover druses of quartz crystals. These specimens are very similar to specemines from
Cavnic in Romania, Greece or Bulgaria. Nice are also rhodochrosite pseudomorphs after
calcite crystals. Best specimens were collected during active mining which was ceased
in 1993, but nice rhodochrosite specimens are occasionaly collected especially at the
Špitaler vein.

Attached is what I received from Collectors Edge. There is a photo of the Emperor, and also 2 photos of you and Bryan standing by the display of the Emperor. Hope you can use something. They said the Emperor was 60 cm. in largest dimension. I have seen a photo on Flickr which is very nice (http://www.flickr.com/photos/50755490@N00/5434912359/) but it requires licensing. The Emperor label reads Wutong mine, Guangxi, Zhuang A. R., China which does not seem to agree with the Mindat Wutong mine location. I also got a picture of the Empress, but it had been doodled on so I did not include it. I am somewhat reluctant to go back to them, but will give it a shot if you want.

Did we get permission to use them on Mindat? I we should probably not use the one with me in it, thought the color of the specimen is probably more realistic. I have also asked for another image of the rhodochrosite and we will see if that one if forthcoming or not and what the color looks like.

I told them what we intended to do with the pictures when I made the request. I also was disappointed with the color, as it was nowhere as vivid as I remember from the show, or as in the pictures with you and Bryan. I thought that it was probably due to the difference in lighting.The picture I mentioned that I found on Flickr would, I think, be ideal, but requires licensing.

Whether our usage is commercial or non-commercial is open to debate, personally I would see it as non-commercial, but you'd be best to ask the photographer if he would mind us using it.

"If image is used, am hoping you will credit me" - To have it show up on the photo, you need to have your name in at least the Short Copyright notice field. The only place this wouldn't work automatically is when you have put the photo in the public domain. I have gone in and edited your photo so this will work OK.
