Can you help make this a better article? What good localities have we missed? Can you supply pictures of better specimens than those we show here? Can you give us more and better information about the specimens from these localities? Can you supply better geological or historical information on these localities?
Quartz
SiO2 trigonal
Here will go a good picture of a quartz specimen from Nepal and general remarks about the quartz from this country.
Here are some url's to some of the better quartz specimens here on mindat that can be considered for inclusion in the article. These, in mosc cases are just for temporairy use untill we can get images of the much better specimens that are almost certainly out there. We should also consider that there are probably localities out there with fine specimens that are not even mentioned on mindat. Also in some instances there are sometimes pictures on mindat, of specimens from a locality, but they were so ratty that I did not include them here, but there may also be relly good specimens from there that we should talk about in this article.

This quartz is the most transparent I've ever seen from any location:

I will try to post better photos although it is difficult precisely because it is so clear.
Greetings.

John, thanks for your comment.
Rock, I bough this quartz in a jewelry in Kathmandu and just Taplejung was done as origin. Nepal is specially hermetic with mineral locality data, I learned this after some days in Kathmandu trying to get information about Nepalese gemstones, visiting some geologist in the Nepal Department of Mines and speaking with all dealers offering nice specimens in Kathmandu.
Taplejung is a small and isolated village where it starts the Kachenchunga trekking. Taplejung District is a vast area where crop the following materials:
Himal Group (Pre-Cambrian):
1 - Himal Group: Garnet biotite-gneisses, kyanite-biotite gneisses, garnetiferous mica schist augen gneisses, micaceous quartzites and thin bands of marbles.
Mid Land Group (Upper Pre-Cambrian - Late Paleozoic):
2 - Ulleri Formation: Augen gneisses, muscovite-biotite gneisses and feldspathic schists.
3 - Seti Formation: Grey greenish grey gritty chlorite muscovite sandstones, gritstones with conglomerates and white massive quartzites in the upper parts. Basic intrusions are noted.
4 - Kushma Formation: Greenish grey to white fine to medium grained at places ripple marked massive quartzite intercalated with green phyllites. Basic intrusions are abundant.
5 - Mica-tourmaline grainitic pegmatite intrusions.
(Source: Legende of Geological Map of Nepal)
Somewhere in Taplejung District is also the source of best aquamarines in Nepal.
There is not much bussines around Nepalese minerals and export is restricted. The offer of good specimens in Kathmandu is very little. However, the potential is so high... for future generations.
That's all I can say, I hope this helps.
