Large crystal of golden barite without matrix. The crystal has complex termination with symmetric faces depressed on the side resembling a cathedral. Small ding in the termination. Large crystal for the locality. Overall size of mineral specimen: 30x16x16 mm. Size of individual crystals: 30 mm.

A SUPERB, gemmy, lustrous and partially iridescent serrated barite crystal from the Sherman Tunnel, near Leadville, Colorado. These barites are generally conceeded to be Colorados finest. This mine has been closed for a number of years. 5.3 x 4.5 x 1.3 cm

Sherman Mine (Sherman tunnel; Leadville Corporation Mine; Day Mines; Hilltop Mine), Upper Iowa Gulch, Leadville District, Lake Co., Colorado, USA

The dominant barite crystal is 1.8 cm across and is fairly translucent. The cluster in the right center of the specimen is 1.9 cm across. All of the crystals have good luster and are on a matrix typical for this classic Colorado locality.
