Beryl : Be3Al2Si6O18

Paris, Oxford Co., Maine, USA

9.6 x 6.0 x 4.0 cm. Admittedly not the most beautiful "emerald" you have ever seen, but this is a rare (nowadays) old-timer green beryl from Maine! It is actually quite sharp and well-formed, with the termination intact on one end - and it does have some translucency as well. The crystal measures 4.5 cm.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) : Be3Al2Si6O18

Mt Mica Quarry, Paris, Oxford Co., Maine, USA

A fairly large tabular aquamarine from Mt. Mica. 10.0 x 9.1 x 3.8 cm. From pocket 5 of 2008, it was mined on May 12 of that year. Interestingly, it was a greenish-yellow color when it was mined, but then turned blue after less than an hour in the sunlight. Henry Minot photo & collection.
