Piece of platy white barytes with thin radial partings of pencil-ore hematite. Specimen is 75 x 50mm and was recovered from the remains of a surface dump in April 1987 at a time when site was being used as a constuction contractor\'s yard.

Barite from Egremont, Cumberland

Barite form Egremont is considered as a classic among the classics. The crystal has tabular form and the blue color typical for the pieces of that deposit. The clear color contrasts nicely with the red of the iron oxides, also included along the edges.

Floater, doubly-terminated crystal whose former attachment to matrix is visible due to small fragments of Hematite on the bottom of the sample. Blue color contrasts with reddish zones, due to Hematite inclusions, near the edges. A classic, very difficult to obtain nowadays.
