Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18, Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) : SiO2

Hiddenite, Alexander Co., North Carolina, USA

Rarely will you get the chance to acquire a fine Hiddenite emerald, and this beauty has all the attributes to make it special even amongst others that have come out. MATRIX SPECIMENS ARE ALMOST UNHEARD OF, and I have NEVER seen even a single crystal of this apatite-like form and neon color. It is surely an older specimen! The two intergrown, ...

Rist Mine (North America Emerald Mines), Hiddenite, Alexander Co., North Carolina, USA

This rare Hiddenite emerald cluster is made up several light green crystals with darker green caps and red rutile. It was recovered on September 27, 2007 from a hard rock pocket at the NAEM (Rist) mine. This specimen is very rare for this location due to the fragility of the crystals. An emerald cluster like this would not have survived the ...

Not only is it aesthetic ...

Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18, Quartz : SiO2

Hiddenite, Alexander Co., North Carolina, USA

4.0 x 3.3 x 2.3 cm. This is a slender 1.1-cm-tall emerald crystal, incredibly gemmy (especially for this locality), glassy, and perched on quartz matrix. A classic. This came in a collection dating to about 1984 at latest, so it is from old finds here and not modern mining efforts.
