Annaberg-Buchholz, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany

6.6 x 3.9 x 2.1 cm. A superb, rare locality specimen with a valid old label clearly showing this is from ANNABERG and not the more commonly seen Freiberg district. Sharp crystals of calcite decorate and accent this solid cluster of 100% crystallized acanthite. Probably from the early to mid 1800s, this is a very rare locality specimen.

Acanthite : Ag2S, Baryte : BaSO4, Polybasite : [(Ag,Cu)6(Sb,As)2S7][Ag9CuS4]

Neuer Morgenstern Mine, Freiberg, Freiberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany

The specimen is ~ two inches high. The scale in the bottom of the image is an inch with a vertical line at one cm. The specimen was for years in the collection of Arthur Montgomery who gave it with others to Dick Bideaux and when Dick sold his collection through Wayne Leicht, I managed to buy it. Who will get it next?
