Painite : CaZrAl9[O15|BO3], Corundum (Var: Ruby) : Al2O3

4x4 cm side of large pebble, composed by painite with ruby inclusions. Crystaline faces of painite are wisible. Minor associating minerals are small crystals of dark-brown rutile and brown to yellow limonite films with muscovite flakes (apparently this rock initially was enriched with pyrite). Parallel growths of crystals that are very big and well defined for the species. They have very good color and luster, and they are with Corundum (Ruby) on matrix. Only a few specimens of this very rare species appeared and there were no further finds so we consider it exceptional.

Here we have a real beauty, a gemmy Painite crystal with a complex termination, a lucky find on eBay, the recent finds have made Painite seem not as rare as it used to be, theres lots of it on eBay now, but if you look you will see they are just fragments, how many terminated crystals can you see!
