Calcite : CaCO3, Dioptase : Cu6(Si6O18)·6H2O

Altyn-Tyube (Altyn-Tube) deposit, Kirghiz Steppes (Asiatic Steppes), Qaraghandy Oblysy (Karaganda Oblast'), Kazakhstan

Lustrous and gemmy, green dioptase crystals to 7 mm are nicely sprinkled on lustrous, colorless to gray, translucent calcite crystals from the Type Locality in Kazakhstan, Altyn Tyube. The large, doubly terminated calcite crystal really adds pizzazz to this piece. 6.3 x 6.0 x 3.9 cm

Stem of gray calcite with a crown of bright green dioptase crystals on the top. The dioptase crystals are quite large with excellent surface luster. One crystal shows a cleaved termination, the rest are clean. Overall size of mineral specimen: 3x3x3 cm. Size of individual crystals: 4-10 mm.

WOW! This is just an AMAZING dioptase specimen, especially for Russia (the type locality - no, it is NOT Tsumeb!). It features a HUGE, FAT crystal 1.7 cm from top to bottom and 1 cm thick, that crowns a cluster of smaller crystals of equally fine luster and color. This is just a standout specimen for what it is. 4.1 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm

From the type locality for dioptase, we have a BIG (2.2-cm) crystal of deep green dioptase, sharp and with fine luster. The crystal is almost an inch! If it were from Tsumeb, it would cost $10k and not look a heckuva lot different. There is only slightely less lustre on a Russian diop than on most Tsumeb specimens, really. The crystal has ...

Thin plate of milky quartz crystals up to 4 mm with bright green dioptase crystals up to 8 mm from the type locality for this beautiful mineral. Two crystals missing, otherwise good condition. Ex. Russ Buckingham collection. Overall size of mineral specimen: 5x4.5x1.5 cm. Size of individual crystals: 3-8 mm.
