Calcite - an odd looking 4.5 x 4.5 cm desert weathered concretion found by a relative during Operation Desert Storm in February 1991 somewhere in Saudi Arabia near the Kuwait border.

Gypsum (Var: Selenite) : Ca[SO4] · 2H2O

Haql, Gulf of Aqaba, Mintaqah Al Jizan, Saudi Arabia

This 16.5 x 7.6 cm of selenite blades with sand inclusions came over during Desert Storm and is an uncommon locality specimen. In the Charles Creekmur collection.

Zircon : Zr[SiO4]

Jabal Tuwalah (Djebel Tuwallah), Mintaqah Al Madinah, Saudi Arabia

Zircon from a very unusual locality. I purchased this thumbnail specimen from Hawthorneden at the 2008 Detroit Show. The crystals are about 15 mm in the longest dimension. Photo and specimen; Steve Stuart.
