Cassiterite : SnO2

Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, USA

6.9 x 5.4 x 2.4 cm. Due to their high tin content, these stream-worn nodules of cassiterite were familiarly known as "stream tin". An Alaskan example is a rarity! This is a solid, complete nugget, all around. This specimen from Fairbanks weighs 10 ounces; ex. Charles Hansen Collection.
