Tarryall Springs District (Puma City), Park Co., Colorado, USA

Almandine Garnets on orthoclase. Sizes are 6.5x5.5x2 cm and 7x6.5x4cm. The basic shape is dodecahedron on trapezohedron and they are my favorite color, black. These were found along the South-East base of Badger Mountain between the St Joe Prospect and Unknown Uranium Prospect (MRDS 10264639). The location is now a shooting range and so ...

Apatite-(CaF) : Ca5[F|(PO4)3]

Sweet Home Mine (Home Sweet Home Mine), Mount Bross, Alma District, Park Co., Colorado, USA

2.6 x 2.3 x 1.7 cm. For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent specimens. This piece is from one of the first pockets that Rich opened when he started mining the Sweet Home. Apatite is rather rare in my experience from the Sweet Home. This specimen ...

Baryte : BaSO4

Hartsel District, Park Co., Colorado, USA

Another good Colorado barite from yet another classic old locality, this one with pale green-gray crystals to 3.5 cm, and one very pretty and well-formed crystal in particular that makes a fine frontal display face. This is very old material, now seldom seen for sale. ex. George Fisher Collection 4.5 x 4.5 x 4.1 cm

Baryte : BaSO4

Hartsel, Hartsel District, Park Co., Colorado, USA

A neat matrix-less cluster of translucent to transparent barite crystals measuring 3.5 x 2.6 x 5.2 cm in size overall. Slight chipping is present but overall in very good shape. This is more "yellowish" than the typical blue-gray seen at the locality. Better quality than most as well with the transparency. There are phantom crystals present. ...

Baryte : BaSO4

Hartsel, Hartsel District, Park Co., Colorado, USA

Baryte in situ. The seam was around 1 foot thick here, and was starting to increase as it dipped down to the right of the photo. This baryte was exposed, so has turned blue from the sun. I didn't think of measuring, but that is a normal sized man's hand for scale.

A choice cluster of bluish-gray tabular barite crystals measuring 6.9 x 5.5 x 4.4 cm in size without matrix. Some chipping is present, typical of these. A nice example for the locality from the collection of Don Belsher.
