Epidote : {Ca2}{Al2Fe3+}[O|OH|SiO4|Si2O7]

Terry Fork, Madison Co., North Carolina, USA

2.9cm long epdote crystal partially enclosed in quartz. Epidote from this locality is low in iron, close to clinozoisite in composition, and typically light olive green in color. Sometimes locally misidentified as vesuvianite. Collected by, photographed by, and in the collection of Keith Wood.

Epidote : {Ca2}{Al2Fe3+}[O|OH|SiO4|Si2O7], Grossular : Ca3Al2[SiO4]3

Terry Fork, Madison Co., North Carolina, USA

13mm epidote crystal in quartz. The rest of the rock consists of a mixture of epidote and grossular garnet. Epidote at this location is low in iron (close to clinozoisite in composition) and thus light in color for the species. Collected and photographed by Keith Wood.
